Couples Therapy

“Love is like a precious plant. You can’t just accept it and leave it in the cupboard or just think it’s going to get on by itself.  You’ve got to keep watering it”

(John Lennon)

I have specialised in the ‘Psychology of Relationships’ for over 20 years, following my Masters’ research on Cognitive Behavioural Couples’ Therapy.  Since then, I have greatly diversified in my rather eclectic approach to couples therapy.  These days, my relationship strategies are drawn from very practical, skills-based interventions including Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and Psychobiological Approach to Couples Therapy (PACT).   Most recently, I have been very inspired and influenced by the dynamic approach and philosophy of Esther Perel; particularly her work on both long term intimacy problems and infidelity.

Specifically relating to intimacy, I have extensive training, experience and a special interest in the field of sexuality; heterosexual and LGBTQ+.  This gives me a deep respect and deep understanding of sexual diversity across and within couples’.

Each couple’s therapy is designed to match their very specific needs. Treatment plans stem from extensive initial assessment (i.e. couple and individual sessions plus surveys) of relationship functioning and couple goals.

As part of my approach, home tasks, books, online resources, Apps and Podcasts will be suggested to enhance your relationship functioning.  Generally speaking, the earlier the intervention, the easier the acquisition of new relationship skills 🙂

Depending on your relationship’s goals, couples therapy may focus on:
